Ontario Shipyards is situated in 208 Hillyard StreetHamilton, ON and is hiring a Welder to join the team. The successful candidate must be available to start work as soon as possible. This is a Permanent employment or Full time position.

Job Description

• The candidate must interpret welding process specifications.
• The candidate must operate manual or semi-automatic and fully automated welding equipment.
• The candidate must read and interpret welding blueprints, drawings, specifications, manuals, and processes.
• The candidate must examine welds to ensure compliance with standards and specifications.
• The candidate must operate manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment.
• The candidate must operate brakes, shears, and other metal shaping, straightening, and bending machines.
• The candidate must fit, braze, and torch-straighten metal.
• The candidate must determine weldability of materials.
• The candidate must operate hoisting and lifting equipment.
• The candidate must operate previously set-up welding machines to fabricate or repair metal parts and products.
• The candidate must operate previously set-up brazing or soldering machines to bond metal or fill holes, indentations, and seams of metal.
• The candidate must start up, shut down, adjust, and monitor robotic welding production lines.
• The candidate must maintain and perform minor repairs on welding, brazing, and soldering equipment.
• The candidate must weld or braze components.
• The candidate must troubleshoot and make minor adjustments to equipment.
• The candidate must test and replace defective equipment or components.
• The candidate must set up equipment.
• The candidate must report any malfunctions to supervisors.
• The candidate must position, align, and adjust parts for proper fit and assembly.
• The candidate must move and align subassemblies and components.
• The candidate must make adjustments to machinery.
• The candidate must make adjustments to process variables.
• The candidate must maintain accurate work records and logs.
• The candidate must maintain accurate and up-to-date records.
• The candidate must cut, shape and fit materials to form parts and components.
• The candidate must troubleshoot problems related to equipment.
• The candidate must have welding experience.
• The candidate must monitor and inspect quality of produced materials.
• The candidate must provide technical and professional advice.
• The candidate must consult with clients, engineers, or production specialists to establish product requirements.
• The candidate must move products using forklift, crane, or hydraulic hoist.
• The candidate must co-ordinate work activities with other project supervisors or managers.
• The candidate must monitor the calving process.
• The candidate must perform pre-operational inspections.
• The candidate must confirm findings with a supervisor to determine whether to repair or replace a unit.

• The candidate must be fluent in English.
• The candidate must have a certificate of Secondary (high) school graduation.
• The candidate must be well-organized.
• The candidate must be a good team player.

• The candidate must have the ability to work independently.

Work Setting

• The candidate should work in various locations when employees are scattered across different worksites.
• The candidate must work in manufacturing industry to operate machinery, assemble products, and ensure quality and safety standards are met.
• The candidate must focus on repair work, restoring damaged, deteriorated, or broken items to good condition.
• The candidate should work in construction trades and crafts, including bricklaying, stonemasonry, carpentry, joinery, demolition, electrical work, painting and decorating, plumbing, scaffolding, steeple jacking, and wall and floor work.
