Plant propagator - greenhouse or nursery

Van Luyk Greenhouses and Garden Centre in London, ON is inviting applications for the position of Plant propagator - greenhouse or nursery. This position requires the successful applicant to begin duties at the earliest opportunity. This role offers Seasonal employment or Full time employment. Flexible availability required for: Day, Weekend.

Job Description

• The candidate must clean crops effectively.
• The candidate must consider water saturation, light, and temperature when planning for germination.
• The candidate must perform greenhouse cleaning.
• The candidate must mix fertilizers.
• The candidate must tie and secure plants.
• The candidate must perform weeding.
• The candidate must spray or dust plants with insecticides and fungicides.
• The candidate must mix and prepare soils.
• The candidate must plant bulbs and seeds.
• The candidate must pot and re-pot plants.
• The candidate must transplant seedlings or rooted cuttings.
• The candidate must apply fertilizers.
• The candidate must report signs of insect or disease damage.
• The candidate must assist in grafting activities.
• The candidate must water and tend to plants, lawns, and/or gardens.
• The candidate must clean work areas.

Job Requirements

• The candidate must be fluent in English.
• There are no standard education requirements, such as a bachelor's degree, a certificate, or a diploma.
• The candidate must have 2 to less than 3 years of experience in a related field.
• The candidate must be able to handle a weight of up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
• The candidate should have efficient interpersonal skills.
• The candidate must be reliable.
• The candidate must be a good team player.

Work Site Environment

• The candidate will be required to work long hours in an outdoor environment.
• The candidate will be required to work in confined spaces.
• The candidate must work in hot conditions.
• The work environment is smoke-free.

Work Setting

• The candidate must work in a greenhouse to cultivate plants, manage growth conditions, and ensure healthy production.
• The candidate must work in a garden centre performing horticultural and retail-related duties.
