Job Description
- The candidate must apply successive coats of compound and sand seams and joints smoothly.
- The candidate must apply, level, and smooth coats of plaster.
- The candidate must clean and prepare surfaces.
- The candidate must cure freshly plastered surfaces.
- The candidate must fabricate and install suspended metal ceiling grids and place in panels to form acoustical and coffered ceilings.
- The candidate must fill joints, nail indentations, holes, and cracks with joint compound using a trowel and broad knife.
- The candidate must finish corners and angles and create decorative designs in finish coat, if required.
- The candidate must measure, cut, fit, and install drywall sheets.
- The candidate must mix plaster ingredients to the desired consistency.
- The candidate must mould and install ornamental plaster panels, cornices, and trim.
- The candidate must position and secure sheets to metal or wooden studs or joists.
- The candidate must smooth out excess compound and allow coats to dry.
- The candidate must spray acoustic or texture materials over walls and ceilings.
- The candidate must tape over joints using a taping machine and embed tape in compound.
- The candidate must trowel or spray coats of stucco over exteriors of buildings to form weatherproof surfaces.
- The candidate must attach metal or gypsum lath to studs or furring.
- The candidate must cut openings in lath for heating and ventilation piping, ducts, and electrical outlets.
- The candidate must install acoustic tile, hangers for suspended ceilings, and metal studs for composition wallboard or lath.
- The candidate must install corner beads and wire mesh around beams to which plaster is to be applied.
- The candidate must prepare wall and ceiling layouts.
- The candidate must erect and install scaffolding, falsework, and other working platforms.
- The candidate must read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings, and specifications.
Job Requirements
- The candidate must be fluent in English.
- The candidate must have a certificate of Secondary (high) school graduation.
- The candidate must be able to handle a weight of up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
- The candidate must be willing to work long hours in bending, crouching, and kneeling positions.
- The candidate must have excellent hand-eye coordination.
- The candidate should be required to handle heavy loads as part of routine work.
- The candidate must be able to handle a large workload.
- The candidate must perform physically demanding tasks as part of their daily work.
- The candidate should be required to perform repetitive tasks frequently.
- The candidate must have the ability to discriminate sounds.
- The candidate must be willing to work in a standing position for extended periods.
- The candidate must be able to meet tight deadlines.
- The candidate must be willing to walk for long periods of time.
