Concrete finisher

JOHNS & N CONSTRUCTION LTD in Sooke, BC is inviting applications for the position of Concrete finisher. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to join and begin duties immediately. Terms of employment: Permanent employment or Full time. Work schedule: Day, Shift.

Job Description

• The candidate must check formwork, granular base, and steel reinforcement materials.
• The candidate must direct placement of concrete into forms or onto surfaces according to grade.
• The candidate must fill hollows and remove spots on freshly poured cement.
• The candidate must prepare tenders and quotations.
• The candidate must operate power vibrators to compact concrete.
• The candidate must level top surface concrete according to grade and depth specifications.
• The candidate must work at heights, on scaffolding or swing stages.
• The candidate must impart desired finish to concrete surfaces using hand and power tools.
• The candidate must instruct apprentices.
• The candidate must install anchor bolts, steel plates, door sills, and other fixtures.
• The candidate must apply hardening and sealing components to cure surfaces.
• The candidate must waterproof, damp-proof, and restore surfaces.
• The candidate must repair, resurface, and replace worn or damaged sections of concrete structures.
• The candidate must estimate costs and materials.
• The candidate must operate CADD and other computer software systems.
• The candidate must read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings, and specifications.

• The candidate must be fluent in English.
• The candidate must have a certificate of Secondary (high) school graduation.
• Equivalent experience is acceptable.
• The candidate must be accurate.
• The candidate must have excellent oral communication skills.

• The candidate must perform physically demanding tasks as part of their daily work.
• The candidate should be required to handle heavy loads as part of routine work.

• The candidate must have the ability to discriminate sounds.
• The candidate must be willing to work in a standing position for extended periods.

Work Site Environment

• The candidate must be able to work in dusty conditions.
• The candidate must be able to work at heights.
• The candidate must work in cold or refrigerated conditions.
• The candidate must work in hot conditions.
• The work site environment is noisy, and the candidate must be able to work with complete concentration even in such conditions.
• The candidate will be required to work long hours in an outdoor environment.

Work Setting

• The candidate must be able to work in an on-site customer service environment, such as an office or business location.
• The candidate must work from a remote location, performing their duties from a site other than the employer’s central office while maintaining productivity and communication.
• The candidate should work in a rural area; most people live or work on farms or ranches. Hamlets, villages, towns, and other small settlements are in or surrounded by rural areas.
• The candidate should work in an urban area with a high population density.
• The candidate's relocation costs should be covered by the employer, allowing the employer to contribute to the employee's relocation costs incurred in moving closer to the company's offices or other work locations as required.
• The candidate must work in a commercial setting that fosters a workforce of highly competent, respectful, mature, and accountable employees working toward a common goal.
• The candidate must work in residential settings, performing tasks on one-, two-, and three-family dwellings.
• The candidate must work on roads and bridges to construct, maintain, or repair infrastructure and ensure safety standards.
• The candidate should work on sidewalks and curbs; sidewalks require a minimum width of 5.0 feet if set back from the curb or 6.0 feet at the curb face.
• The candidate should work in various locations when employees are scattered across different worksites.
