Early childhood educator (E.C.E.)

Little Learners Daycare Centre ( Guelph, ON) is currently looking for a skilled Early childhood educator (E.C.E.). This position requires the successful applicant to begin duties at the earliest opportunity. This is a Casual employment - Part time position. Required shifts: Morning, Day, To be determined.

Job Description

• The candidate must develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children.
• The candidate must lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, and taking children to local points of interest.
• The candidate must encourage children to express creativity through art, dramatic play, music, and physical activities.
• The candidate must guide and assist children in developing proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits.
• The candidate must observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians, or supervisors.
• The candidate must maintain knowledge of licensing regulations.
• The candidate must establish guidelines for behaviour.
• The candidate must attend staff meetings to discuss the progress and challenges of children.
• The candidate must establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children.
• The candidate must plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security, and well-being of children.
• The candidate must plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours.
• The candidate must supervise and co-ordinate activities of other early childhood educators and assistants.

Job Requirements

• The candidate must be fluent in English.
• The candidate must have a College, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program lasting 3 months to less than 1 year.
• The candidate must be punctual.

Work Site Environment

• The candidate will be required to work long hours in an outdoor environment.
• The work site environment is noisy, and the candidate must be able to work with complete concentration even in such conditions.
• The work environment is smoke-free.

Work Setting

• The candidate should work in a child care centre, a day nursery, or a crèches, probably the most formal childcare setting.
