Sail maker

Doyle Boston Sailmakers in Point Edward, ON is inviting applications for the position of Sail maker. The successful candidate must be available to start work as soon as possible. Terms of employment: Permanent employment or Full time. Flexible availability required for: Morning, Day, Overtime available.

Job Description

• The candidate must draw, lay out and cut master patterns for products.
• The candidate must create pattern size variations from master patterns using drafting tools or computers.
• The candidate must lay out master patterns on fabric and cut sample patterns.
• The candidate must estimate fabric or material requirements for products.
• The candidate must examine sketches, samples, and design specifications to determine the number, size, and shape of pattern parts and to assess the quantity of fabric required to produce a product.
• The candidate must mark size, identification and sewing instructions on sample patterns.
• The candidate must outline pattern parts on paper and mark them to indicate details such as pocket and pleat placement on garments, decorative stitching on shoe components, or eyelet positions on canvas products.
• The candidate must operate sewing machines or sew by hand.
• The candidate must train other workers.

Job Requirements

• The candidate must be fluent in English.
• The candidate must have a certificate of Secondary (high) school graduation.
• The candidate must be accurate.
• The candidate must have excellent oral communication skills.
• The candidate must have good judgement skills.
• The candidate must be able to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity.
• The candidate should have an eye for detail.
• The candidate must have excellent hand-eye coordination.
• The candidate must be able to distinguish between colours.
• The candidate must be willing to work long hours in various positions, including those that require sitting, standing, and walking, as well as those that involve physical activity.
