Captain, ferryboat

Société des Traversiers du Québec ( Kakustshenan, QC) is currently looking for a skilled Captain, ferryboat. We are looking for a candidate with strong interpersonal skills to start as soon as possible. We are offering a Seasonal employment or Full time opportunity. Flexible availability required for: Morning, Day, Evening, Shift, Overtime available.

Job Description

• The candidate must command and operate ships or vessels to transport passengers and cargo.
• The candidate must supervise and co-ordinate activities of deck crews.
• The candidate must ensure safety and comfort of passengers.
• The candidate must determine geographical position using navigational instruments, maps, and charts.
• The candidate must direct and oversee the loading and unloading of cargo.
• The candidate must maintain vessel’s navigational instruments and equipment.
• The candidate must control, steer, and navigate a vessel in various waterways.
• The candidate must enforce regulations in Canadian waters.
• The candidate must record vessel’s progress, weather, and sea conditions in ship’s log.
• The candidate must resolve conflict situations.

Job Requirements

• The candidate must be fluent in French.
• The candidate must have a College, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program lasting 3 months to less than 1 year.
• Relevant experience considered in lieu of education.
• The candidate must be dependable.
• The candidate should have efficient interpersonal skills.
• The candidate must show initiative.
• The candidate must be a good team player.

Work Site Environment

• The candidate will be required to work long hours in an outdoor environment.
• The candidate must work in cold or refrigerated conditions.
• The candidate must work in wet or damp conditions.

Work Setting

• The candidate must work from a remote location, performing their duties from a site other than the employer’s central office while maintaining productivity and communication.
• The candidate should be willing to relocate and be ready to move to a new city/different city for a job.
