Veterinary assistant

North Delta Animal Hospital in Delta, BC is seeking a self-motivated Veterinary assistant. This position requires the successful applicant to begin duties at the earliest opportunity. Terms of employment: Permanent employment - Part time leading to full time. The schedule involves Morning, Day, Evening, Weekend, Flexible hours shifts.

Job Description

• The candidate must collect samples and perform other laboratory tests.
• The candidate must handle, restrain, and care for animals undergoing treatment and surgery.
• The candidate must produce diagnostic radiographs.
• The candidate must assist veterinarians before, during, and after surgery.
• The candidate must prepare and administer medications and vaccines under the direction of a veterinarian.
• The candidate must administer treatments as prescribed by a veterinarian.
• The candidate must counsel clients on animal health care.
• The candidate may perform a variety of office management and clerical duties.
• The candidate must provide nursing care and rehabilitation therapy for animals.
• The candidate must provide wound and bandage care.

Job Requirements

• The candidate must be fluent in English.
• The candidate must have a College, CEGEP, or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 to 2 years.
• The candidate should have an eye for detail.
• The candidate must have excellent hand-eye coordination.
• The candidate should be able to work effectively in a fast-paced and busy environment.
• The candidate must be willing to walk for long periods of time.
• The candidate must be willing to work long hours in various positions, including those that require sitting, standing, and walking, as well as those that involve physical activity.
• The candidate should be willing to work under pressure.

Work Setting

• The candidate must work in a veterinary clinic to provide care and treatment for animals, assist veterinary staff, and support daily operations of the facility.
• The candidate must work in an animal hospital to assist veterinary staff, provide care to animals, and support daily operations.
