Metal-fabricating shop helper

VAW Systems Ltd. in Winnipeg, MB is inviting applications for the position of Metal-fabricating shop helper. The successful candidate must be available to start work as soon as possible. This is a Permanent employment or Full time position. Required shifts: Day, Evening, Overtime available.

Job Description

• The candidate must operate metal cleaning equipment to remove excess welds, rust, scale, and other materials from surfaces of metal products.
• The candidate must assist structural steel and platework fitters, sheet metal workers, metal machine operators, or other metal workers.
• The candidate must sort metal sheets and parts, scrap metal, and other materials.
• The candidate must grind or chip excess metal from metal products using hand tools.
• The candidate must clean machines and immediate work areas.
• The candidate must load and unload vehicles.
• The candidate must read and interpret work orders.

Job Requirements

• The candidate must be fluent in English.
• The candidate must have a certificate of Secondary (high) school graduation.
• Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• The candidate must be able to handle a weight of up to 23 kg (50 lbs).
• The candidate must be dependable.
• The candidate must have excellent oral communication skills.
• The candidate must be flexible.
• The candidate must be reliable.
• The candidate must be a good team player.

Work Site Environment

• The candidate must be able to work in dusty conditions.
• The candidate must work in hot conditions.
• The work site environment is noisy, and the candidate must be able to work with complete concentration even in such conditions.

Work Setting

• The candidate must work in a sheet metal fabrication shop to cut, shape, and assemble metal products according to specifications.
• The candidate must work in a metal products manufacturing company to fabricate, assemble, and inspect metal products while ensuring quality and safety standards are maintained.
