Arvora Housing and Childcare Society in Canal Flats, BC is inviting applications for the position of Early childhood educator (ECE). Ideally suited for a motivated individual ready to join the team immediately. We are offering a Permanent employment or Full time opportunity. Required shifts: Morning, Day, Evening.

Job Description

• The candidate must assess the children’s development in order to prepare a learning plan tailored to their needs.
• The candidate must develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children.
• The candidate must assist early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children.
• The candidate must lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, and taking children to local points of interest.
• The candidate must assist early childhood educators or supervisors in keeping accurate records.
• The candidate must encourage children to express creativity through art, dramatic play, music, and physical activities.
• The candidate must engage children in activities by telling stories, teaching songs, and preparing crafts.
• The candidate must guide and assist children in developing proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits.
• The candidate must observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians, or supervisors.
• The candidate must discuss progress and problems of children at staff meetings.
• The candidate must establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children.
• The candidate must plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security, and well-being of children.
• The candidate must plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours.
• The candidate must supervise and co-ordinate activities of other early childhood educators and assistants.

Work Setting

• The candidate should work in a child care centre, a day nursery, or a crèches, probably the most formal childcare setting.
• The candidate should work in a rural area; most people live or work on farms or ranches. Hamlets, villages, towns, and other small settlements are in or surrounded by rural areas.
• The candidate must work in a daycare center or nursery school, providing care and supervision while supporting educational and recreational activities that promote children’s cognitive and social development.
