Job Description

  • The candidate must interview clients individually, in families, or in groups to assess their situations and determine the types of services required.
  • The candidate must supervise social workers, paid para-professional staff, student trainees, and volunteers.
  • The candidate must perform administrative tasks.
  • The candidate must provide counsel and therapy to help clients resolve social and personal problems.
  • The candidate must plan assistance programs for clients.
  • The candidate must refer clients to agencies providing financial assistance, legal aid, housing, medical treatment, and other services.
  • The candidate must provide public education and consultation regarding counselling services, issues, and methods.
  • The candidate must serve as a member of an interdisciplinary professional team working with client groups.
  • The candidate must advocate on clients’ behalf in courts or hearings.
  • The candidate must represent and advocate for client groups by promoting and pursuing appropriate solutions to issues affecting them.
  • The candidate must conduct social research.
  • The candidate must deliver presentations at conferences, workshops, or symposia.
  • The candidate must evaluate the effectiveness of counselling and patient outcomes.
  • The candidate must develop prevention and intervention programs to meet community needs.
